Difference between tennis shoes and running shoes

Due to the reason that the feet were prone to extensive wear and tear due to the great distances that people had to travel those days, the urgent need for a protection for feet was intensely felt from the very early ages itself. Because of this need, they first innovated a covering for their feet from various leaves of trees and tree barks and then from animal hides which proved to be more durable and effective. The shoes that we wear today are a direct result of this basic need that the early human being felt at the beginning of the civilization. The needs of the human beings have changed drastically since then and therefore, various shoes have been designed for various purposes to suit the varying needs and requirements of the modern man. Among the large variety of shoes available in the market today, sports shoes are once again given a rather significant place. According to different sports, different shoes have been invented, with the specific requirements that different sports demand. Tennis shoes and running shoes are two kinds of shoes which appear quite similar in appearance and yet, which possess many differences in their making.
What are tennis shoes?
Tennis shoes are the kind of shoes that one would wear for playing tennis. These shoes are made of extremely thin sheets of rubber in an extremely pliable manner which would allow greater flexibility of foot and ease of executing lateral moves for the player. This function of the shoes is essential for the tennis sport as it involves a whole range of motions that vary hugely from one another.
What are running shoes?
Running shoes are the type of shoes that one would wear for running. These shoes sometimes come with spikes to allow a greater grip on the track to avoid any sort of slipping or skidding along the track. However, the type of shoes known as racing flats are lightweight athletic shoes which have been designed for long distance track and field, cross country and also for athletes who engage in road races. Racing flats generally possess small or no heel lift and little padding or support which allows the runner to use their natural foot strength, elasticity and proprioception which in turn allow faster speed. However, other running shoes apart from racing flats are known to have quite a lot of padding that enables the shoes to absorb the pressure and impact of foot movements.
What is the difference between running shoes and tennis shoes?
The most basic difference between these two types of shoes is the fact that while running shoes are made for the athletes who participate in running events such as cross country, marathons, track and field and etc while tennis shoes are made for athletes who engage in the tennis sport. Both shoes are made from rubber and are quite comfortable to wear. However, these two types of recreational activities are extremely different from each other which is exactly why they need shoes that are extremely different from one another.
Tennis shoes are much heavier than running shoes because of the need to maintain body balance of a player is great in tennis while running shoes are much lighter than tennis shoes as lightness is a crucial factor which determines speed of the athlete. And yet, tennis shoes are much slimmer than running shoes and have very thin and slim soles with very little padding that allows the tennis player pliability of the foot and the ability to execute diversified moves of the sport. The soles of most running shoes are quite thick and contain thick padding at the soles. This is so that the shock and the pressure from the ground will not be absorbed by the body and the runners will not get easily tired.
However, the soles of the tennis shoes are quite hard even though they are thin. This is so that the players can maintain their balance in the court and maintain the stability of their stance. And yet, the soles of the running shoes are quite soft in order to enhance traction and shock absorption. Another difference between the two shoes is that while running shoes are designed with higher side padding to protect the ankles allowing ample forward movement, tennis shoes lack side support due to the fact that tennis players are meant to travel side to side which will be hindered by high cuts in their shoes.
