In two tablespoons of unsalted peanut butter, there exists 190 calories, 16 grams of fat, 7 grams of carbohydrate and 3 grams of fiber. In addition to that, it also contains 8 grams of protein, 1% calcium, 3% iron, 14% Vitamin E and 6 % of folate. Peanut butter is known to be beneficial to women as it contains special properties that contribute towards reducing colon cancer. It is also a rich source of antioxidant that helps prevent oxidative damage which can lead to various cancers.
What is jam?
Jam is a fruit spread that is made from preserving fruit. Many fruits such as strawberry, plum, apricot, apple and the like are used in these jams and usually pectin, sugar or honey are used in their preparation process. The fruits are cooked together with sugar, honey or pectin until they are soft and moist and then they are stored in jars. Jams are usually very sweet or tart according to the type of fruit that has been used. Jam is usually canned and is usually made to be stored as they last much longer than ordinary fruits would. Jams are best with breads and on sandwiches and it has always been a preferred spread by children worldwide.
What is the difference between jam and peanut butter?
Jam and peanut butter are like an old married couple that one just cannot be imagined without the other. But a fact that must be understood is that these are two very different substances that have different qualities and characteristics which make each of them unique in every way. For instance, the taste of peanut butter and jam are very distinct. Peanut butter is available in salted and non-salted versions and it has a creamy, nutty taste in contrast with the sweet, fruity taste of the jam. Texture wise, the two substances differ as well. Peanut butter comes in both crunchy and smooth varieties. The texture of peanut butter is hence buttery and smooth whereas the texture of jam tends to be jelly like, sticky and lumpy. Some jam varieties are rather gelatinous in nature and almost transparent.
The ingredients used in the preparation of peanut butter and jam vary as well. Peanuts, hydrogenated vegetable oils, salts, dextrose, and sweeteners are used in the preparation of peanut butter whereas fruits, sugar, honey or pectin are used in the preparation of jams. Peanut butter carries along various health benefits such as the decreased chances of developing cardiovascular diseases as well while jam is not known to have such health benefits. Peanut butter is rich in protein, folate and dietary fiber whereas jams are only known to contain Vitamin C in them.
