Difference between hotels and resorts
Hotels vs resorts:
Everyone needs a vacation from the day to day calamities of the world at times. It is for this purpose that places such as hotels and resorts have been invented. Hotels and resorts both serve as temporary places of lodging and rest for tourists looking for that perfect spot to sit back and relax as well as for travelers who set out to see the world. Hotels and resorts are different from each other in a myriad of ways. This article thus seeks to distinguish the many ways in which that they differ but first, let us see what defines a resort and a hotel at first.
What is a hotel?
Hotels are usually known as luxury establishments which provide lodging, food and other facilities to people for comparatively shorter periods of time. A hotel is a personalized type of a lodging facility that is usually located in the city, offering a wide variety of choices in rooms and services to the customer. A hotel room is conventionally comprised of a washroom and bedding facilities whereas other more luxurious services can be arranged such as Jacuzzi and spas according to the client’s wishes. These rooms can be obtained with or without air conditioning and the price range of these rooms differ according to the services offered as a result. Hotels are often classified according to the standard star ratings and the prices of these hotels vary according to these classifications as well. In a hotel, one usually finds a gym, swimming pool and various restaurants where the customer can choose the services that he or she wishes to obtain.
What is a resort?
A resort can be defined as a place of relaxation and recreation that can be a town (referred to as a resort town) or a commercial establishment owned by a single company. These places attract many visitors and travelers for vacations and holidays. Many types of resorts exist that can be seaside resorts, ski resorts, mountain resorts and spa towns which offer a myriad of specialized services and thus named according to their locations. A resort typically answers to all the needs of the visitors such as food, drinks, entertainments, recreational activities, shopping and etc within the same establishment. Resorts are common in the United States as well as all over the world. Central America and the Caribbean are two areas in which resorts can be found in plenty.
What is the difference between a resort and a hotel?
A resort and a hotel are often interlinked with each other as a hotel is indeed considered as the central feature of a resort that provides food, lodging and various entertainment sources to the visitors. However, every hotel is not a resort as resorts refer to a large area of recreation whereas the services that a hotel can provide are quite limited. In fact, the main objective of a hotel is to provide the visitors with luxurious, comfortable lodging while they are attending a conference or any other purpose that only requires a short stay away from home. As a result, hotels are usually situated in the city, in the middle of the busy business area from where all the key places and monuments of the city can be reached easily. A resort on the other hand, is situated much closer to nature and is thereby situated as further away from the hustle and bustle of the city as possible. Not only they provide the visitors with the lodgings of their choice, they also make sure that the visitors get the chance to experience various recreational activities of their choice as well. Resorts ensure that the visitors make the most of their stay while they are in the resort whereas a hotel does not concentrate much upon the entertainment or recreational facilities that it can offer its guests.
Hotels and resorts have many differences when it comes to the complimentary services that come with the reservations. Every hotel and resort may offer free wireless Internet access and airport shuttle services whereas resorts may also include tickets to theme parks nearby, free tours, treks and etc in their reservations. Therefore, while a resort is well capable of providing all that a hotel is capable of providing and more, a hotel cannot provide everything that a resort is capable of providing to its visitors.
