What is Honda?
Honda, or as it is formally known, Honda Motor Company Ltd, is a Japanese public multinational company best known for manufacturing automobiles and motorcycles. Honda is engaged in automobile and aviation industries. It was founded on 24 September 1948. The founders of Honda are known as Soichiro Honda and Takeo Fujisawa. Honda is the world’s largest motorcycle manufacture from 1959. Today, Honda is the second largest automobile manufacturer in Japan, the fourth largest automobile manufacturer in the United States and the seventh largest automobile manufacturer in the world. Although, Honda is universally acknowledged as an automobile and motorcycle manufacturer, it has its other wide range of products such as scooters, electrical generators, water pumps, garden equipment, jets, jet engines, robotics, and aircraft. In 1986, Honda marked its first appearance in the artificial intelligence and robotics field and initiated the first robot; ASIMO, in 2000. Currently, Honda employs approximately 179,060 employees. Speaking of the product lineage of Honda automobiles, it consists of the Fit, Civic, Accord, Insight, CR-V, CR-Z, Legend, and Odyssey. Honda’s automobile family thus ranges from normal cars to compact cars like Civic and hybrid cars such as Insight. Further, Honda was renowned for its fuel efficient cars. To end with, it should be noted that Honda was at the crown point of its motorcycle manufacturing with manufacturing 3 million motorcycles annually around the year 1982 and in 1964 Honda was known the king of motorcycles.
What is Acura?
Then, let us focus on what is meant by Acura. Acura is a division or a branch of Honda and it is a brand of luxurious vehicles designed by the Honda Motor Company Limited and that makes Acura the daughter of mother Honda. Acura was first branched out from Honda in 1986 in Tokyo, Japan. And, in the same year, it was introduced to the US and Canadian markets for he first time. Later on, it was introduced to several other countries such as Hong Kong, Mexico and China by the years 1991, 2004 and 2006 respectively. Honda Motor Company’s plan to introduce Acura to the Japanese market in 2008 was postponed due to the then financial crisis. Acura was all about luxury, performance, and near-performance. Acura is universally acknowledged as the very first brand of Japanese luxury vehicles. Eventually, Acura became one of the best selling luxury vehicles in the automotive market of the United States. Finally, though the sales of Acura went down a little in the 90’s, Acura managed to revive in the early 200s and now back in the market with all new designs and models, steady and triumphant as ever.
What is the difference between Honda and Acura?
Now that we know what Honda and Acura are, it would be appropriate to see what the difference between the two is. Contrasting Honda and Acura would be like distinguishing between a mother and a daughter. That is to say, the two entities are distinctly different, yet they are descendents of one origin. Both have same roots. But, their scope of function is different. And also, one is branched out from the other. The major difference between Honda and Acura is that Honda is the origin and Acura is its branch. Actually, it is one of Honda’s many branches. That would be the most important disparity. The other disparity between Honda and Acura would be that Acura the Honda’s division of “luxury cars” and it is pioneer in luxury car market. Yet, Honda encompasses not only luxury cars, but vehicles such as normal cars, and particularly, motorcycles. Also, the brand Honda covers gardening equipment, generators, robotics, and space technology, etc. Thereby, Honda triumphs in larger scope than Acura while it is just about luxury cars.
