Babysitters vs nannies:
The difference between a babysitter and a nanny can be quite subtle with regards to the fact that both are dedicated to quality childcare in the absence of its parents. These two terms cannot, however, be used interchangeably. Therefore, this article seeks to emphasise certain differences as to what makes a babysitter different than a nanny.
Who is a babysitter?
A babysitter is a person who provides childcare for families as needed and when needed. They take care of the children in the absence of the parents and often for short periods of time and for multiple families as well. it is an odd job which concentrates more on the safety of the child as opposed to other things such as nutrition, hygiene, etc. a babysitter is hired temporarily for usually the period of an evening and they are often recompensed on a daily basis for the number of hours that has been put in.
Who is a nanny?
A nanny serves as an employee of a family who is assigned with the full time duty of taking care of the children. He or she is entrusted not only with the safety of the children, but also with their nutrition, hygiene, education, etc as well. Nannies are normally paid a monthly wage and they often live with the parents and look after the children.
What is the difference between nannies and babysitters?
Nannies and babysitters both provide the service of taking care of children for their parents and they both provide quality childcare. And yet, a nanny and a babysitter is different and has different roles. For example, babysitting is an odd job whereas being a nanny is a full time job. The babysitter provides his or her services to multiple families when needed whereas a nanny serves as a permanent employee. Babysitting is often performed for a shorter period of time whereas a nanny is hired for longer periods of time.
Babysitters are principally responsible for the safety of the children. They are not responsible for giving a child a healthy meal, bathing, brushing teeth of the children whereas the nanny is. The nanny is responsible for the nutrition of the children, their hygiene as she makes sure they have regular baths or give them baths him or herself and even help with the homework.
Babysitters are often young girls whereas nannies are more elderly people with experience of looking after a child. Also, a babysitter is a contract worker who is paid for the number of hours that he or she worked whereas a nanny is paid a monthly salary. A babysitter visits houses from time to time to take care of the children when the parents are away whereas nannies live in the house itself which makes it easier to keep an eye on the children more closely.
