Difference between anxiety and stress
Anxiety vs stress:
Although many may believe that anxiety and stress refer to the one and the same condition, these are two completely different types of manifestations. Both conditions may result from the same reasons as their base, but the symptoms and other particulars of these two terms are quite different.
What is anxiety?
Anxiety can be generally defined as a feeling of discomfort prior to doing something. It is situational and is often based on a previous experience of the individual which he or she has deemed as being unpleasant or dangerous. It is often manifested in the form of severe nervousness, the anticipation of a negative outcome of a situation. A person suffering from anxiety may avoid a situation which makes him or her feel uneasy to the point that it makes even simple activities in his or her day to day life rendered unachievable.
What is stress?
Stress occurs as a result of existing stress-causing factor or stressor. When a stressing situation springs up, the body releases adrenaline which in turn may increase the blood pressure and also cause other harmful effects that can be quite hazardous to health.
Stress is the manner in which our bodies and minds react to something which upsets our normal balance in life. This may lead in to exhibiting common symptoms of stress such as muscle tension, headache, lack of concentration and fatigue, etc.
What is the difference between anxiety and stress?
An anxiety patient suffers often from a sense of fear or sense of dread as if something bad is going to happen. Stress triggers anger and an inability to concentrate. And whereas stress has identifiable stressors, anxiety has no identifiable cause for anxiety. OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder), GAD (generalized anxiety disorder), panic disorders and phobias all occur as part of an anxiety disorder.
Stress is not often considered as a mental disorder whereas anxiety is one. Whereas anxiety has medication which could permanently cure the condition, the solution to stress would be to get away from the source of stress and perhaps the healthy dose of relaxing medications.
While stress is a feeling or an internal state of mind, anxiety can be quite physical. An anxiety patient may exhibit constant agitation and panic attacks that last for a long time which may even lead to hurting themselves.
Stress can be due to both sad and happy times. It is understandable that one can be too stressed at work, but yet, one can be stressed when he or she is getting married as well. Getting married, although is a happy occasion, is a serious decision and making a such a serious decision that shall have a permanent effect on his or her life puts a large amount of pressure on the individual which in turn will make him or her stressed. Such stress is often known to call off weddings and even to get divorced as soon as a couple had become married to each other.
