They are constantly under the employer’s orders and are not allowed to make independent decisions. A secretary usually arranges appointments and juggles his or her superior’s agenda in general relating to business and functions as a support to the employer rather than an individual job role.
What is the difference between a secretary and an administrative assistant?

The work of a secretary is more routine and requires low analytical skills. An administrative assistant’s work is not routine and it requires higher analytical skills.
Whereas a secretary is not allowed to make independent decisions, an administrative assistant is. He or she makes the decisions and conducts business as he or she sees fit whereas the secretary functions as a tool under the employer’s orders.
