The terms Amazon and Amazon marketplace sound similar enough and yet, their functions are not quite the same. Amazon and Amazon marketplace have caused and continue to cause enough confusion among the people because of the similarity between the two terms which is why this article intends to harp on those little technicalities which set them apart.
What is Amazon?
Amazon is the online company store itself in which the company goods are being sold. Amazon marketplace is an ensemble of all Amazon retailers whose products are put to sale in one place. These are retailers who have chosen to use the services of Amazon and have thus agreed to certain terms and conditions of the Amazons. Not all retailers can be retailers of the marketplace either. Only certain retailers from certain countries pocessing financial accounts in a few countries that the marketplace allows are allowed to become a part of it. And Amazon.com often charge a fee or a percentage for the item that has been sold. It is consisted of a large variety of items which buyers from any part of the world can purchase online.
What is the difference between Amazon marketplace and Amazon?
Both Amazon and Amazon marketplace are online stores from which any buyer from any part of the world can purchase items from. And yet, Amazon.com and Amazon marketplace can be compared to a single retail shop and a shopping mall. Amazon.com is the company store where the products of the company itself are sold. And yet, Amazon marketplace puts all kinds of retail sellers together and offers a wide variety of items to the potential buyer. Therefore, while Amazon.com can be compared to a retail shop where the owner of the shop is the one who sells them as well, Amazon marketplace is like a shopping mall which is made up of many retail shops put together in one place.
While Amazon.com only features their own items, Amazon marketplace offers a much wider array of items. Therefore, if one cannot find a certain item in Amazon.com, one can definitely find it in Amazon marketplace. Also, while all the money from the sales at Amazon.com goes to Amazon itself, a certain percentage of the goods been sold goes to Amazon.com while the retailer gets the rest.
Amazon marketplace sells both used and new items whereas this is not the case at Amazon.com. and yet, both Amazon and Amazon marketplace offer a catalogue of products which include a rating system, product info, etc online which one can browse through and from which one can choose from.
