There exists a different form of exercise which helps tone different parts of the body as well as exercises intended for specific functions which are beneficial for the regulation of different bodily processes as well. Aerobic and anaerobic exercises are two such forms of exercises which this article is going to examine.
What is aerobic exercise?
Aerobic exercise involves the use of oxygen to produce energy as the name aerobic itself indicates “with oxygen”. During this form of exercise the body uses oxygen to burn fat and glucose in order to manufacture adenosine triphosphate (ATP) which is the basic energy vehicle which caters to all the cells in the body. What is anaerobic exercise?
As the name itself suggests, anaerobic exercise do not involve the usage of oxygen. These exercises are usually performed at a very intense level and therefore, the body is unable to keep up with the oxygen demands of the working muscle cells and therefore is not able to break down the fat for fuel utilization purposes. During anaerobic exercise, the body metabolizes muscle glycogen which is supplied by blood sugar, which is manufactured by the liver from dietary amino acids and carbohydrates to produce power. And this in turn increase muscle mass by lengthening and shortening the fibers.
What is the difference between anaerobic and aerobic exercises?
While both these exercises are beneficial to the body, it is essential that one should practice a healthy combination of the two in order to maintain the balance of the physique. It is true that they share the same plain as being exercises that are beneficial to health and are as equally useful in shaping and toning the body and yet, these two forms of exercise are different in function as well as their purposes.
While aerobic exercise is defined as the sort of exercise which utilises oxygen to produce energy, anaerobic exercise is defined as the sort of exercise that does not utilise oxygen to do so. That being the main difference, during aerobic exercises, the body burns the fat with the use of oxygen that is absorbed in to the body whereas during anaerobic exercises, as a result of the body not having enough oxygen to burn fat, it is the muscle glycogen which produces the energy.
Aerobics can be performed at ease for a longer period of time as this form of exercise allows the body to breath and relax at the same time. Anaerobic exercise does not last for more than two minutes as it is a form of intense workout which does not allow the body to relax and breath. Furthermore, aerobics aid in strengthening the heart muscles, improving the blood circulation and the transportation of oxygen in the body, as well as reducing blood pressure and burning fat. Anaerobic exercises on the other hand concentrates on calorie burning, building strength and muscle mass, stronger bones and also helping in the increase of speed, power, muscle strength and the metabolic rate.
