Difference between adapter and converter

Not only these two terms, these two appliances themselves have come to be two very useful things in the modern world. It is often difficult to please everyone and because of the growing needs and wants of the people, not everything fits in to everything else anymore. Therefore, one need to possess certain devices which act as mediators which act as mediators in reconciling two appliances which do not usually see eye to eye or does not fit each other at all.
What is a converter?
Converters convert energy which flows through an appliance. Power lines exist in two standards sizes, one being 220 watts and the other one being 110 watts and not both these energy lines suit all the electrical appliances in the household. Somethings may even get burned if the power proved to be strong for the appliance to bear. And hence, introducing the voltage adapter, which is perhaps the most popular adapter known to the mankind. These converters have the capability to turn the voltage up or don according to the needs of one’s electric appliance. Also, there are many other converters available such as USB-SATA converters that lets you connect a hard disk drive as if it were a flash drive.
What is an adapter?
An adapter is often concerned with the shape and not so much the energy. The power plug of an appliance is an excellent example for an adapter. Some may have flat prongs while others have round or square ones. Same goes for plug points which can be flat, round or square. An adapter can very well fix this problem as it is capable of plugging flat prongs to round plug points or round prongs to a flat point or which ever way one chooses to. Also, there are also microSD to SD adapters that one can use if a person has trouble installing a microSD memory card when one’s laptop only accept SD cards.
Differences between converters and adapters
A huge price margin exists between adapters and converters due to the simplicity of adapters and the complexity of converters. And as indicated, converters have much more components than an adapter does as it performs a much complex task of converting electricity to suit another electric appliance than an adapter which simply fixes size and shape problems of appliances.
Choosing the wrong adapter would only make it unusable but choosing the wrong converter may have more dire consequences. Not only will it not work when coupled together with the appliance, the converter itself may get destroyed and in worst cases, the appliance too could burn down as a result of the wrong amount of energy flowing through the appliance. Therefore, making the wrong choice in converter is much more dangerous than choosing the wrong adapter and not being able to use it.
