For example, because of its popularity world wide, it has an extended network of users who are ever ready to answer any question that a user has regarding a problem relating to ACL and therefore, the utilization of
ACL is easier than that of IDEA. Learning about ACL is once again made much easier by the profusion of online and offline publications regarding ACL that is available in the market today.
And yet, IDEA automatically performs a CLASSIFY command on the month and day of week for various date fields whereas ACL does this only if commanded to. This feature in IDEA enables a quick review of account activity easily accessible whereas in ACL, this function needs to be prompted. Also IDEA is considered to have better print functionalities as it enables the user to easily return to the model used to interpret files prior to printing whereas in ACL, the user is not allowed to return to GUI for editing purposes. IDEA also has a VERIFY function which ACL does not. Therefore in this aspect, IDEA is deemed to be more advantageous than ACL.
Yet, during the import phase, IDEA does not have the ability to “EXCLUDE” records based upon certain criteria whereas ACL’s interface in defining detail is considered as much more admirable.
