Difference between abortion and miscarriage
abortion vs miscarriage:
While the consequences of a abortion or a miscarriage can be heartbreaking for a hopeful, expecting mothers, the causes for these two conditions differ greatly. While both phenomena refer to the losing of the foetus inside the womb, these to terms are used in situations which are blatantly different from each other.
What is an abortion?
The term “abortion” usually refers to a situation where a woman voluntarily goes through a termination of pregnancy out of her own free will. This may be a choice she had to make perhaps because she is not ready for a baby, because she has health complications which will interfere with her body if she decided to have the baby, etc. this kind of abortion is usually done by taking medications or through surgery which will in turn terminate the pregnancy by removing the foetus from the womb.
However, there are natural abortions which occur naturally, without the will or the knowledge of the woman to terminate the pregnancy.
What is a miscarriage?
Also referred to as spontaneous abortion or a natural abortion, a miscarriage is also a termination of pregnancy which happens automatically without the wish of the woman to terminate it. A termination of pregnancy is considered as a miscarriage when the woman in question wishes to have the child and have made up her mind for it and yet, the body accidentally expulses the foetus or the foetus is so weak that it cannot survive on its own. A miscarriage is prone to happen usually during the first trimester of the pregnancy and the woman who bears the foetus has no control over the event. Miscarriages can happen as a result of health complications or issues within the reproductive system.
What is the difference between an abortion and a miscarriage?
Abortions are of two kinds. During an induced abortion, the termination of the pregnancy is performed voluntarily and because it is the will of the woman to do so whereas a natural abortion is similar to a miscarriage. Here, the abortion is occurred within the body of the woman without her knowledge or her wish to do so.
A miscarriage on the other hand is quite spontaneous. This happens to women who have no wish of terminating the pregnancy and yet, the body accidentally expulses the foetus or the foetus is not strong enough to survive on its own inside the womb. Miscarriages often occur because of health reasons and these often happen within the first trimester of the pregnancy where the woman has absolutely no control over the event.
An abortion can be performed because of personal reasons. Either the woman is not ready for the pregnancy or the pregnancy has to be terminated because the woman has health issues and a pregnancy would be hazardous to her health. A miscarriage can happen due to many reasons as well. There may be health issues which may be inducing the miscarriages inside the body of a woman.
