Difference between abiotic and biotic
Abiotic vs biotic:
Our ecosystem is dependent upon biotic and abiotic things which are extremely important for the growth and the existence of the environment. However, although they are indispensable for one another, biotic and abiotic stands for completely different things of which the difference needs to be clearly identified in order to understand the nature in which our environment operates.
Abiotic components are non living organisms in an ecosystem that are not able to move, breathe or perform metabolism. Aspects such as soil, sun, temperature, water fall under this category. Abiotic components aid the evolution cycle, thereby performing its part in the sustaining of the ecosystems.
Biotic stands for living things which can move, reproduce, grow and produce energy. Plants and animals fall under this category. In a grassland ecosystem, biotic components are categorized as producers, consumers, and decomposers. Grasses, trees, lichens, cyanobacteria and etc can be named as the produces that capture the solar energy, use the nutrients available in order to produce energy in that particular environment. Herbivores, carnivores, and omnivores who depend upon the producers living in that environment are the consumers and they are not able to produce energy. Insects, fungi and bacteria are the decomposers who break down the organic layer, providing nutrients for the producers.
What is the difference between biotic and abiotic?
An ecosystem is often divided as biotic and abiotic ecosystems. The difference between biotic and abiotic is quite evident. Biotic components are living organisms which are able to move, reproduce, grow and produce energy whereas abiotic components are nonliving components that are not able to move, breathe or perform metabolism. However different these two aspects may be, both these organisms are vital for the balance that exists in our eco systems. Biotic and abiotic components aid each other in the production and growth process of each other, thereby maintaining the balance that exists in the environment.
Biotic ecosystem is once again divided as producers, consumers, and decomposers. However, in a barren ecosystem, in order for more organisms to grow and produce themselves, abiotic factors become absolutely essential. The abiotic factors which come in useful here are the environmental factors such as the climate, water, temperature and etc. Once the barren ecosystem has been colonized by living organisms, the soil becomes the abiotic factor which binds them all. Climate, water, temperature and etc aid in the reproduction, growth and sustenance of these biotic factors thereby making sure that both parties maintain the required balance in the said environment.
This balance however can be tempered with by human beings. Development, construction, farming, and pollution are some of the means that this harmony of the ecosystem is being heavily interfered with. The alteration of one factor in the environment is enough to alter a complete ecosystem, thereby creating mayhem. Therefore, altering the physical environment can result in many adverse effects such as global warming, acid rains and such which have drastically affected the biotic components of the ecosystem. In doing so, even the existence of the abiotic factors have been threatened in a severe manner. However, apart from biotic and abiotic components, there are such things which are referred to as limiting factors that determine the nature of the ecosystem as well as the organisms which exist in the environment. For example, one can mention the arctic where the extremely low temperatures affect the growth and the reproduction of animals and plants alike.
