Perhaps everyone has these questions to ask – some about really advanced and serious matters such as medical or any other scientific inventions and yet others of a very silly and whimsical nature such the difference between a white egg and a brown egg.
Well, “WikiDifference.com” is a project portal that tries to find answers to such questions by extracting all the expertise that are found in the various disciplines around the world. It started composing, to provide explanations for these and hundreds of other vexed queries.
Everybody would have, at some point in his life, wondered what the difference is between some two things. But most of us don’t have the time or energy to track down definitions and explanations. WikiDifference.com, owned by Wiki Difference Association, has done that work for us. A few strokes of a keyboard and we have our answer. We can sleep easier, speak more knowledgeably, avoid an embarrassing situation, or perhaps even settle a dispute.
WikiDifference.com went live in October 2004. Visitors can search the site for a comparison or a scroll through or a search through category.
Wiki Difference is a web-based, free-content, encyclopaedia-like project based on an openly editable model. Wiki Difference articles provide links to guide the user to related pages with additional information.
Wiki Difference is written collaboratively by largely anonymous Internet volunteers who write without pay. Anyone with Internet access can write and make changes to Wiki Difference articles (except in certain cases where editing is restricted to prevent distortion or vandalism). Users can contribute anonymously, under a pseudonym, or with their real identity, if they choose.
Since its creation in 2004, Wiki Difference has grown rapidly into one of the largest reference websites for comparing similar items. There are several active contributors working in more than 23 countries. Every day, several visitors from around the world collectively make several edits and create thousands of new articles to augment the knowledge held by the Wiki Difference.
People of all ages, cultures and backgrounds can add or edit article, prose, references, images and other forms here. What is contributed is more important than the expertise or qualifications of the contributor. What will be retained depends upon whether it fits within Wiki Difference’s policies which include verifiability against a published reliable source, thus excluding editors’ own opinions and beliefs and un-reviewed research, freedom from copyright restrictions and absence of contentious material about living people . Contributions cannot damage WikiDifference because the software allows easy reversal of mistakes and many experienced editors are watching to help and ensure that edits are cumulative improvements.
